RON THOMPSON'S BLUEGRASS MUSIC

Last Updated on 9/20/2010

In the year 1920 Bill Monroe was about eight years old. Bill Monroe is credited as the father of bluegrass music. The Scottish immigrants are documented as playing fiddles and other instruments long before Bill Monroe introduced the genre. The picture below was taken of THOMPSONS playing bluegrass music ca 1920. Documented in the minutes of Flat Creek Baptist Church in Buncombe County, North Carolina in the year 1842 you will find Rev. William Thompson being sent by the church to speak to his niece (daughter of Nancy Thompson Buckner) because she had been "frollicking before the fiddle."
